Hirsch Firmware Upgrade Recommendations

Introduction

Upgrading firmware on your Hirsch Digi*Trac or Mx controller requires certain steps and considerations. Controllers can be setup as a single controller  or multiple controllers in a downstream configuration. Important: Upgrade the SNIB2/SNIB3 firmware prior to CCM/CCMx firmware upgrade.

Solution

Single controller configuration:

  1. Ensure you are preserving your encryption by turning off switch 1 on switch bank 2 while the controller is powered on and online.

  2. Upgrade the SNIB2/SNIB3 firmware prior to CCM/CCMx firmware upgrade.

  • Master SNIB2/SNIB3 firmware can take 5 to 12 minutes.

  1. After completing SNIB2/SNIB3 firmware update process, then upgrade CCM firmware.

  • Master CCM/CCMx firmware upgrade can take 10-20 minutes to complete.

Note: The controller will remain online during the SNIB/CCM firmware download, then report offline during the flashing process. The controller will reconnect to Velocity after the firmware flash.

Downstream Controller Configuration:

  1. Ensure you are preserving your encryption on your primary controller by turning off switch 1 on switch bank 2 while the controller is powered on and online.

  2. Upgrade the master SNIB2/SNIB3 controller first. Then, upgrade each SNIB2/SNIB3 one at a time going from 2nd, to 3rd, etc.

  3. Complete all SNIB2/ SNIB3 firmware upgrades prior to CCM/CCMx firmware upgrade.

  4. Upgrade the master CCM controller first. Then, upgrade each CCM one at a time going from 2nd, to 3rd, etc.

Note: Downstream SNIB2 firmware upgrade can take 20-30 minutes to complete. Downstream SNIB3 firmware upgrade can take 1 hour to 1.5 hours to complete. Downstream CCM/CCMx firmware upgrade can take up to 40 minutes to complete. The downstream controller will remain online while downloading the SNIB/CCM firmware file, then report offline during the flashing process. The downstream controller will reconnect to Velocity after the firmware flash.

CAUTION: If you have an Mx controller running a CCMx firmware version earlier than 7.5.28, you MUST first upgrade to version 7.5.28 before you download version 8.3.00.073 to that controller. Downloading version 8.3.00.073 to an Mx controller running CCMx firmware version earlier than 7.5.28 will lock up that controller.

CAUTION:  To maintain the network configuration settings of your SNIB2 board, its SNIB2 firmware must be at version 5.99 before you upgrade it to version 6.42 or 6.52.
