No network adapter visible in System Manager

In System Manager, in the View/Edit Network Settings dialog, under "Choose a Network Adapter from the list," the network adapter doesn't appear in the list

This solution requires a local connection (monitor, keyboard, and mouse plugged into Smart Recorder).

This indicates that the network adapter driver is missing. This issue may occur as a normal Windows hardware hiccup, or it can be caused by the user, if they enter their IP address and include the leading zeros (ie, 10.100.1.1 is entered as 010.100.001.001). This is a Windows bug, and Windows handles it in XP Pro by automatically removing those leading zeros. 3VR doesn't do that automatically, so we get this bug where the user saves the IP this way and the NIC drivers are uninstalled.

  1. Configure SmartRecorder so you can access the Device Manager:

    1. Connect a keyboard, mouse, and monitor directly to the SmartRecorder.

    2. Log in to the SmartRecorder as 3VR/ Level 4

    3. The 3VR Administration Console will open. Click the Command Prompt button to access the command prompt.

    4. At the command prompt, type devmgmt.msc.

    5. Double-click Network adapters to display the list of network adapters installed on the system.

    6. Right-click Intel(R) 82566DM Gigabit Network Connection and select Properties. (On a 965 System (Hardware version C 2U 2.0; might have different name on older hardware).

    7. In the Properties window, verify that the Device Status field reads "This device is working properly." Click OK to close the window.

    8. In the main Console window, right-click Intel(R)82566DM Gigabit Network Connection and select Uninstall to uninstall the driver.

    9. Restart the SmartRecorder.

    10. When the SmartRecorder comes back up, the driver will automatically be reinstalled by Windows. Verify that the network adapter is properly enabled in Device Manager by repeating steps from b till g.

  2. Configure network settings in SystemManager:

    1. Log out of the SmartRecorder, then log in using your regular user name and password.

    2. Open SystemManager, select the Manage Servers tab, and click the server name on the left.

    3. In the 3VR Adminstration Console, click View/Edit Network Settings and verify that the network adapter is now displayed.
