Updating from Velocity v3.6 (or higher) to Velocity v3.8.6

If you are updating an existing Velocity system to a new release, use the Velocity Update Wizard instead of the Velocity Installer.

The Velocity Clients will be updated automatically when they connect to the server.

Before performing the procedure below, be sure to follow the instructions in these topics:

Unsupported Features

Velocity v3.8.5 displays a list of legacy features that are no longer supported. These features have been previously announced as unsupported. If you use these legacy features, Velocity v3.8.5 will not update your system by default.

To update to 3.8.6 when legacy features are in use, please contact Identiv Technical Support, who will provide instructions on temporarily turning these unsupported features.

The following steps provide more information regarding the unsupported features and updating to a newer version.

  • Contact Identiv or your certified Identiv dealer to obtain the appropriate version of the Velocity Update

  • Copy the Velocity Update to your licensed Velocity Server and run it

  • A window displays the list of unsupported features based on the cases listed

    • Case 1: If no unsupported feature(s) are used, then the user can proceed with the update as shown (Continue button activated)

    • Case 2: If at least one unsupported feature(s) are used, then the user cannot proceed with the update as shown (Continue button deactivated)

    • To proceed with the update, the user should call  Identiv Technical Support to temporarily turn ON the unsupported feature(s). Once these features have been enabled, you can then re-run the update. A screen like the one below appears, click Continue.

  1. The End-User License Agreement (EULA) screen appears. Scroll down to the bottom to activate the Accept button then click Accept

  2. Click Yes to backup the existing database before making the changes, or click No to skip the backup

  3. When prompted, click either the Yes or No button to choose whether to start the Velocity Services after the update finishes

  4. When prompted, click either the Yes or No button to choose whether to start Velocity after the update finishes

  5. If the update detects that the Velocity Web Services Client (VWSC) is not installed, the below window will appear allowing you to install it

The VWSC Installer detects and installs the prerequisites that are required

If the system inspection for the prerequisites fails, configure the system with the requirements and press the Refresh button.

  1. The Velocity Web Services Client Installer displays the Service and Website Settings screen, click Next

  2. The series of dialog windows show the progress of the VWSC installation until you see a window like the one below, click Next

  3. The Installation complete window displays

  4. Clicking the Close button (with the Launch Velocity Web Services Client option checked) will automatically launch the VWSC web page within the default browser

After the update is complete, in Velocity UI, the unsupported features that Identiv Technical Support temporarily turned ON are visible, and the remaining unsupported features shall remain unavailable.
