Your organization’s IT department’s policies might determine whether you can manage your own SQL Server database for Velocity or must run the Velocity database on an existing SQL Server driven by IT.

  • If you are updating or upgrading an existing Velocity installation to the 3.8.5 release, the Installer detects the version of the database server and will not proceed with unsupported SQL versions. In Velocity 3.8.4, the Velocity Updater would still allow you to update with specific older versions of SQL Server may work for the update but even though the versions are not officially supported. If you already have SQL Server 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019 or 2022 installed on your server, the But, this is no longer the case in 3.8.5.

  • The new installations of Velocity 3.8.5 Installer detects and uses your complete edition of SQL Server for the Velocity database.New installations of and upgrades to Velocity 3.8.5 require Microsoft SQL Server 2017 or later. Velocity 3.8.5 provide allows you with the option to install the free Express edition of Microsoft SQL Server 2019. Suppose this Express edition is not adequate for your needs. In that case, you must install a licensed edition of a supported version (2016, 2017, 2019, or 2022) of SQL Server before doing a new Server installation of Velocity 3.8.5.

  • If you already have SQL Server 2016, 2017, 2019 or 2022 installed on your server, the Velocity 3.8.5 Installer detects and uses your complete edition of Microsoft SQL Server for the Velocity database.

Velocity 3.8.5 requires Microsoft SQL Server 2017 or later.
