To install Velocity 3.8.4, follow these high-level steps:

  1. Make sure your computer(s) have the required hardware and software, as described in Hardware and Software Requirements.

  2. If not already done, install the operating system (and any indicated Service Pack). The version of the Windows operating system you install depends on which Velocity role each computer will perform.

The following table shows which versions of Windows are supported by Velocity 3.6, Velocity 3.7, and Velocity 3.8 for the different computer roles during new installations.

  3. Install SQL Server. Refer to Software Requirements for supported versions.

  4. Install Velocity.

For a flowchart of the steps for installing Velocity, refer to the Overview Installation Flowchart

If your system will include Identiv’s FICAM Solution, see the hardware and software components listed in Identiv’s FICAM Solution.

Installation Options

The Velocity Installer provides installation options for the Server, Client, Database, and Standalone Workstation roles. These options enable you to implement access control systems with varying degrees of complexity, to suit a variety of needs:

  • If you have a small facility that only requires one client (or if you want to set up a separate system for testing or training), you only need a single installation of Velocity on a standalone Workstation.

  • If you have a larger facility that requires multiple clients, you need to first install a Velocity Server, and then install the Velocity Clients.

  • If you wish to use a separate computer for the Velocity database, you need to first install a licensed edition of a supported version (2019 or previous) of Microsoft's SQL Server on that computer, and then choose the Data installation option (on the Install Options screen during the Velocity installation process) to install the Velocity database on that computer. Next, you can install a Velocity Server, and then install the Velocity Clients. (Make sure that the SQL Server Browser service is running, so the Velocity Server and Velocity Client installations can locate the separate database server.)

  • For End-Users who currently have Velocity Integrations developed by Identiv Global Services (IGS), please contact your Regional Sales Manager for assistance when updating to Velocity 3.8.4

Before upgrading to Velocity 3.8.4 from a pre-Velocity 3.7 release, you must register your Velocity software and obtain the necessary license(s). See the Velocity Licensing topic for details. Existing Velocity users moving from 3.8.3 to 3.8.4 must use the Velocity Update Wizard instead of the Velocity Installer. For details, see Updating from Velocity 3.8.3 to Velocity 3.8.4.
