Updating Software
Overview
3VR Software updates improves the performance, stability and security of the applications that run on your Appliances. Periodic updates ensures that your software continues to run efficiently and safely.
Updating a Single Appliance
The steps in this section apply to software updates performed on a single appliance. If you are connected to a 3VR Enterprise Appliance and wish to update multiple appliances or the full Enterprise, please refer to Live update of an Enterprise of this chapter.
Sending Updated Package
In System Manager, click Maintenance to go to the Maintenance panel.
Click the Update Software tab.
Check the box next to the name of the appliance to select it.
Click Inspect. Check the Status column to verify that the system is in a ready state:
“OK” is displayed if the system is operating normally and ready to be upgraded.
“Unauthorized” will be displayed if the current user is not authorized to upgrade software on the selected server.
“Unreachable” will be displayed if the system is not in a state where it can be upgraded.
Click Send Update.
In the Choose 3VR Update File window, locate the software update file, named Appliance-VIMS-7.0.X.XXXXX-en-us.3pa (where the Xs represent the software version and build number):
If you are connected to the VIP Appliance with a laptop or over the network, navigate to the drive on your computer where you have saved the unzipped 3VR download package. Browse to the update file and click to select it.
If you are connected to the VIP Appliance with a monitor, mouse, and keyboard, browse to the USB drive or CD containing the update file and click to select the file.
Click OK. System Manager will transfer the selected update file to the appliance. The Status column will show the status of the transfer as it progresses.
When the transfer is complete, the Status column for the appliance will show “Ready to Update” with the name of the update file.
Updating Appliance
Click Update.
The Status column will show the status of the update as it progresses.
When the update is complete, the Messages panel will show the appliance’s name and IP address followed by “Done”
Updating Client Applications
After the appliance has been updated, users must update 3VR OpCenter, 3VR System Manager, and any other 3VR applications installed on their PCs using the 3VR Client Applications installation package that matches the new version. Refer Installing and Upgrading 3VR Client Applications for more instructions.
Updating an Enterprise - Live Update
Use the following procedure to upgrade the software on all appliances on a 3VR Enterprise. You should use these steps if you wish to upgrade the Enterprise immediately. Please note that appliances will not be accessible to remote users and will not record video while they are being updated. If you wish to schedule an update instead, see section Updating an Enterprise - Scheduled Update.
Updating Enterprise Appliance
The first step in the upgrade process is to update the Enterprise appliance.
In System Manager, click Maintenance to go to the Maintenance panel.
Click the Update Software tab.
Check the box next to the Enterprise Appliance. The Enterprise Appliance is indicated by an icon with three green cubes:
Click Inspect. Check the Status column to verify that the system is in a ready state:
“OK” is displayed if the system is operating normally and ready to be upgraded.
“Unauthorized” will be displayed if the current user is not authorized to upgrade software on the selected server.
“Unreachable” will be displayed if the system is not in a state where it can be updated.
Click Update. In the Choose 3VR Update File window, locate the software update file, named Appliance- VIMS-7.0.X.XXXXX-en-us.3pa (where the Xs represent the software version and build number).
Click OK. The update will immediately begin processing.
When the update is complete, the Status column will say “Done” next to the Enterprise Appliance.
Close System Manager.
Updating your Client Application
After the Enterprise Appliance has been updated, you must update 3VR System Manager and any other 3VR applications installed on your PC using the 3VR Client Applications installation package which matches the new version of the 3VR Enterprise Appliance. See the document Installing and Upgrading 3VR Client Applications for instructions.
If you are connected to the Enterprise with a monitor, mouse, and keyboard, you may disregard this step.
Sending Updated Packages to VIP Appliances
After updating the client applications on your PC, the next step is to transfer the update package to all of the VIP Appliances on the Enterprise.
Launch System Manager.
Click Maintenance to go to the Maintenance panel.
Click the Update Software tab.
Click Clear All to deselect the VIP Enterprise Appliance.
Click Select All to select all appliances except the Enterprise.
Click Inspect. Check the Status column to verify that the appliances are in a ready state:
“OK” is displayed if the system is operating normally and ready to be upgraded.
“Unauthorized” will be displayed if the current user is not authorized to upgrade software on the selected server.
“Unreachable” will be displayed if the system is not in a state where it can be upgraded.
Click Send Update.
In the Choose 3VR Update File window, locate the software update file, named Appliance- VIMS-7.0.X.XXXXX-en-us.3pa (where the Xs represent the software version and build number).
Click OK.
System Manager will send the update file to all of the appliances. The Status column will show the status of each transfer as it progresses. When the send is complete, the Status column for the appliance will show “Ready to Update” with the name of the update file for all appliances on the Enterprise.
Updating VIP Appliances
Click Update. The update will immediately begin processing on all appliances.
While the update is processing, the Status column will show the progress of the update for each appliance.When the update is complete, the Status column will display “Done” for all appliances.
Updating all other Client Appliances
After the Enterprise has been updated, users must update 3VR OpCenter, 3VR System Manager and any other 3VR applications installed on their PCs using the 3VR Client Applications installation package that matches the new version installed on the 3VR Enterprise. See the document Installing and Upgrading 3VR Client Applications for instructions.
Updating an Enterprise - Scheduled Update
During a software update, a 3VR appliance will not be recording video and cannot be accessed by remote users. Consequently, you may wish to perform a software update outside of normal business hours to minimize disruption to end users. The 3VR Enterprise Appliance features the ability to schedule updates at a designated date and time. Use the following steps to schedule a software update on an Enterprise:
Scheduling Enterprise Update
In System Manager, click Maintenance to go to the Maintenance panel.
Click the Update Software tab.
Check the box next to the [√]Enterprise Appliance. The Enterprise Appliance is indicated by an icon with three green cubes:
Click Schedule Update. In the Schedule Update window, select the update package to use for the update from the Package drop-down menu.
If the update package is not listed, click Add Package and select the update file. Refer managing update packages for more information on updating packages.
Specify the date and time the Enterprise update should occur.
Click Schedule Update.
System Manager will launch the Scheduled Updates dialog, showing that there is a pending update.
Click Close to return to the Update Software tab.
Scheduling Appliance Update
Click Clear All to deselect the VIP Enterprise Appliance.
Click Select All to select all appliances except the Enterprise.
Click Schedule Update.
In the Schedule Update window, select the update package to use for the update from the Package drop-down menu.
If the update package is not listed, click Add Package and select the update file. See Updating an Enterprise - Updating Packages section for more information on managing update packages.
Specify the date and time for the update. The appliance update should be scheduled for 10 minutes after the Enterprise update. For example, if the Enterprise update is scheduled for 9:00 PM, the appliance update should be scheduled for 9:10 PM (or later).
Click Schedule Update.
System Manager will launch the Scheduled Updates dialog, showing that there are now two pending updates, one for the Enterprise and one for its Appliances.
Click Close to return to the Update Software tab.
Updating Client Applications
After the scheduled updates have taken place, users who connect to the Enterprise must update 3VR OpCenter, 3VR System Manager, and any other 3VR applications installed on their PCs using the 3VR Client Applications installation package that matches the new version. See the document Installing and Upgrading 3VR Client Applications for instructions.
Updating an Enterprise - Managing Scheduled Updates
Use the following steps to view pending and past scheduled updates:
In System Manager, click Maintenance to go to the Maintenance panel.
Click the Update Software tab.
Click View Scheduled Updates.
To view information about an update, select it from the list.
Details about the update will appear in the Messages panel of the Scheduled Updates dialog.To cancel a pending update, select it from the list.
Click Stop/Cancel.
In the dialog that pops up, click Yes to confirm that you wish to cancel the scheduled update.
Click Close to close the Scheduled Updates dialog and return to the Update Software tab.
Updating an Enterprise - Managing Updated Packages
Use the following steps to add or remove software update packages stored on a 3VR VIP Enterprise Appliance:
In System Manager, click Maintenance to go to the Maintenance panel.
Click the Update Software tab.
Click Manage Update Packages.
Adding a new Updated Package
Click Upload.
In the Choose 3VR Update File window, locate the software update file, named Appliance-VIMS-7.0.X.XXXXX-en-us.3pa (where the Xs represent the software version and build number).
Deleting an Updated Package
Select the package to delete.
Click Delete.
In the dialog that pops up, click Yes to confirm that you wish to delete the selected update package.
Deleting an update package will also cancel any pending updates associated with the package.
Updating Plug-Ins
Use the following steps to update a plug-in to a new version:
Launch 3VR System Manager.
In the Configure tab, click the plug sign next to the system name to expand the list of configuration options.
Click the plus sign next to Plugins to display the list of plug-ins on the system.
Right-click the plug-in and select Update “[Plug-in Name]”.
In the dialog that appears, click Update to acknowledge that you must restart the system software after upgrading the plug-in.
In the Choose 3VR Plug-in File window, select the plug-in update file (extension.3pg).
Click OK.
To complete the update, right-click the system name and select Restart 3VR Software from the menu.
In the Confirm dialog box, click Restart to initiate the software restart.
Wait 1-2 minutes for the software to fully restart before proceeding.
