Installation Preparation

Hardware Requirements

  • Advantec ADAM 6050 digital I/O device (12 inputs, 6 outputs)

  • Ethernet cable

Software Requirements

  • ADAM Digital I/O plug-in file: Plugins.AdamDIO-Release-1.0.0.xx-7.x.x.3pg

  • ADAM configuration utility: Advantech AdamApax .NET Utility Ver 2.04.04.exe included on a disc in the box with the ADAM device, or can be downloaded from Support.Advantech.com.

Configuring ADAM Digital I/O Device

  1. Connect the ADAM 6050 to the network with the Ethernet cable.

  2. Launch the Adam Apax .NET Utility.

  3. Right-click your computer’s IP address (under Ethernet) and select Search. The utility will then search the network for ADAM modules on the network.

  4. The default IP address of the ADAM module is 10.0.0.1. You will find it listed under the Others item, named something like ADAM5000TCP_6000.

  5. Configure the network settings of the ADAM, then click Apply Change.

  6. You will be prompted for the password; the default password of the ADAM module is 00000000.

  7. Click the Peer to Peer/Event tab.

  8. Under Mode, select Basic and then click Apply.

  9. Change the Period time setting to 4095 seconds (this is the maximum value).

  10. Click the check box next to Enable Change of State.

  11. In the Destination box, type the IP address of the 3VR VIP Appliance.

  12. Click Apply List to save your changes

Configuring ADAM Digital I/O Plug-In

Installing Adam Digital I/O Plug-in

  1. Launch 3VR System Manager.

  2. In the Configure panel, click the plus sign beside the appliance name.

  3. Right-click the Plug-ins folder and select Add Plug-in.

  4. In the resulting Confirm dialog box, click Install to proceed.

  5. Navigate to the folder containing the plug-in file (Plugins.AdamDIO-Release-1.0.0.xx-7.x.x.3pg) and click to highlight the file.

  6. Click OK. The plug-in will now begin installing.

  7. When the plug-in is installed, it will appear below Plug-ins in System Manager.

Configuring General Settings

  1. Select the Adam Digital I/O plug-in.

  2. Click Edit Settings.

  3. In the Edit Global Settings dialog, enter the settings for your ADAM device(s):

    • Type the IP address for the device, followed by an equals sign (=), followed by a descriptive name for the device. For example, 10.20.130.1=Gate A.
      The name entered here will appear in OpCenter on each Adam event generated by the device.

    • Specify the active state for the device:

      • If the circuit is normally open and an event should be triggered by closing the circuit, change the Active setting to “Closed”

      • If the circuit is normally closed and the event is triggered by opening the circuit, select “Open”

  4. Repeat step 3 for any remaining ADAM devices. You may configure up to 8 devices.

  5. When you are finished, click OK to save your changes.

Binding Cameras to Plug-In

  1. Select the Adam Digital I/O plug-in.

  2. Click the Bound Cameras field, then click the ... button.

  3. In the Bind Plug-in to Cameras dialog box, click the[√] check box beside each camera that should be associated with a signal from an ADAM device.

  4. Click OK to save your changes and return to the Configure panel.

A pop-up will be displayed notifying you that the 3VR system software must be restarted after making changes. Click OK to close the pop-up message and acknowledge the warning. You will restart software as the last configuration step.

Configuring Per-Camera Settings

  1. After binding cameras to the plug-in (steps in above topic “Binding Cameras to Plug-in”), links will appear under Bound Cameras for each camera.

  2. Click a link (for example Edit “2. Front Entrance”) to edit the settings for that camera.

  3. In the Edit “[Camera Name]” Settings dialog you will map digital inputs on the ADAM device to the current camera. When these inputs are activated, the 3VR appliance will create an event in OpCenter with video from this camera.

  4. Type the device ID and input ID of the input in the Device box, separated by a hyphen.

    • The device ID is the number that appears in the global settings for the plug-in. For example, enter 1 for the device listed in the Adam Device 1 box

    • The input ID is the number (ranging between 0 and 11) of the physical input on the ADAM device

    • To link more than one input to video from this camera, enter additional device-input pairs separated by a comma
      For example, to link video from this camera to input 7 on device 1, enter 1-7 in the Device box. To link it to inputs 7 through 9 on device 1, enter 1-7,1-8,1-9.

  5. Enter a name for each input entered in the Device box in the corresponding Input Name Mapping box. The mapping numbers correspond to the position of the input in the list. For example, in the image to the right, the name for input “1-2” is “Alarm 1”.

  6. The Pre-Event Buffer and Post-Event Buffer settings control how many seconds of video to buffer before and after an ADAM event occurs. The default (2 seconds) will be sufficient in most cases.

  7. Click OK to save your changes and return to the Configure panel.

  8. Repeat steps 2-5 for any remaining cameras bound to the Adam Digital I/O plug-in.

Finalize Configuration

Restarting System Software

The 3VR system software must be restarted after initially installing the plug-in or making any changes to its configuration.

  1. In the Configure panel, right-click the appliance name and select Restart 3VR Software.

  2. In the pop-up box that appears, click Restart to proceed. Wait 1-2 minutes for the software to restart.

Enabling Demand Video Recording and Image Buffering

After restarting the system software, verify that both the Allow Demand Video Recording and Allow Demand Image Buffering settings are set to Yes for each camera bound to the plug-in in ADAM Digital I/O Plug-In | Binding Cameras to Plug In . These settings will make video and images available for ADAM events even if there is no motion happening in front of the camera.

Verifying Successful Configuration

Use the following steps to verify that the Adam Digital I/O plug-in has been correctly configured:

  1. Generate a test event on the ADAM device. For example, if the device is connected to an alarm circuit on a gate, open and close the gate.

  2. In 3VR OpCenter, click the Monitor tab to go to the Monitor panel.

  3. Click camera numbers to select the cameras bound to the Adam Digital I/O plug-in.

  4. Click the arrow below the camera selector to open the event type drop-down menu.

  5. Select [√]ADAM Input/Alarm.

  6. Click OK.

  7. If the plug-in has been correctly configured, ADAM Input/Alarm events will appear in the Monitor panel as they occur in real-time. Verify that ADAM Input/Alarm events are being generated correctly on all cameras bound to the plug-in during configuration.
