Dwell Event Cards

A Dwell event will be generated in OpCenter whenever a is captured on a camera bound to the Dwell plug-in.

Dwell event cards contain pictures, video, and information about each dwelling instance. They appear in the Monitor panel for recent events and in the Search panel for search results.

Each Dwell event card contains the following information in storyboard view:

a. Thumbnail image

b. Camera number and name

c. Time of event

d. Event type

e. Dwell time

f. Dwelling object marker

g. Dwell zone name with additional information displayed on mouse-over:

h. Date of event

Viewing Dwell Events

When a Dwell event card is selected, the video clip associated with the event will play back in the video player.

Details about the event may be viewed in the event editor, located below the video player.

In addition to the tabs available for all event types, such as Notes and Images, Dwell events include the following information in the Details tab:

  • Zone: The name of the Dwell zone generating the event.

Searching for Dwell Events

Setting up a Dwell Search

Use the Search panel to find Dwell events recorded days, weeks, or months ago.

  1. To go to the Search panel, click the Search tab.

  2. Define the dates, days of the week, and time ranges to search for events.

  3. Under Cameras, select one or more cameras bound to the Dwell plug-in.

  4. Under Events, select [√]Dwell to search for events generated by the Dwell plug-in.

The following options are available when searching for Dwell events:

  • Click (•)All Dwell to search for all Dwell events generated during the specified time range.

  • To restrict the search further, click (•)Specify.

    • Select [√]Minimum Dwell Time or [√]Maximum Dwell Time and adjust the slider bars to filter the events by dwell time.

    • Select [√]Dwell Zone and type a zone name to search for Dwell events in a specific zone.

When searching for a specific zone, only exact matches (case-insensitive) will be returned.

5. When you are finished defining the criteria for the search, click the Search button.

6. Dwell events matching your criteria will be displayed in the Search panel results screen.

7. Select an event card to view the video clip and details associated with the event.

Dwell Reports

Running Dwell Event Reports

The 3VR Report Viewer client application allows you to generate tabular reports based on data captured by the 3VR system.

Use the following steps to set up a report for events generated by the Dwell plug-in.

  1. From the Report Viewer home screen, click the New button.

  2. Select Event Report from the menu. Report Viewer will switch to the report editing screen.

  3. In the appliance tree in the left-hand panel, select an appliance with the Dwell plug-in installed on it.

     

    When connected to a standalone appliance, the Appliances panel will display a read-only field with the appliance name pre-selected.

  4. Under Cameras, select a camera bound to the Dwell plug-in.

  5. Under Events, select [√]Dwell. The following options are available when reporting on Dwell events:

    • Click (•)All Dwell to create a report for all Dwell events.

  • To further restrict the report, click (•)Specify. The options under (•)Specify are identical to the event selector in the Search panel.

Monitoring Recent Dwell Events in the Monitor Panel

The OpCenter Monitor panel allows you to view events as they happen. You can specify which cameras to view, and what types of events are displayed.

Use the following steps to view recent events generated by the Dwell plug-in:

  1. In 3VR OpCenter, click the Monitor tab to go to the Monitor panel.

  2. Click camera numbers to select the cameras associated with the Dwell plug-in.

  3. Click the arrow below the camera selector to open the event type drop-down menu.

  4. Select [√]Dwell to display events of that type and click OK.

  5. The Monitor panel will update to display only Dwell events from the selected cameras.

To view an event, click the event card. The event card will turn blue, indicating it is currently selected.

Sorting Search Results

There are two ways to sort the results of a search: by Time and by Similarity. Although the default sort order for standard motion events is by time, when searching for Dwell events using the options under (•)Specify it is recommended to sort by similarity.

Sort order is specified when setting up the criteria for a search. To change the sorting of Dwell events:

  1. Under Events, select [√]Dwell to search for events generated by the Dwell plug-in.

  2. Click (•)Specify.

  3. Change the Sort Results By radio button to (•)Similarity.

  4. Adjust the Minimum Dwell Time and Maximum Dwell Time sliders to search for Dwell events by dwell time. The longest Dwell events will appear first in the search results.

Creating Alerts for Dwell Events

In the Alerts panel, you can instruct the 3VR appliance to perform a specified action when video is recorded that matches certain criteria.

Use the following steps to set up an alert that will perform an action, such as sending an email, in response to an event generated by the Dwell plug-in.

  1. To go to the Alerts panel, click the Alerts tab.

  2. To create a new alert, click New.

  3. In the alert editing screen, define the criteria for the alert:

  4. Type a name for the new alert.

  5. Select a color for the alert. The color will be displayed on event cards that trigger the alert.

  6. Specify the day of the week and hours that the alert should be active.

  7. Under Cameras, select a camera configured for Dwell events.

  8. Check the boxes [√] next to one or more alert Actions to carry out when the alert is triggered.

  9. If desired, type an alert response procedure. This text will be included with the alert and posted on events that trigger the alert.

  10. Under Events, select [√]Dwell.
    The following options are available when alerting for Dwell events:

    1. Click (•)All Dwell to generate an alert for all Dwell events occurring during the specified time range.

    2. To generate alerts for Dwell events with a specific dwell time, click (•)Specify. The options under (•)Specify are identical to the event selector in the Search panel. Please refer to the previous section for more information about creating alerts for specific Dwell events.

  11. When you are finished defining the criteria for the alert, click the Save button.

  12. The alert will be added to the list of alerts displayed in the main view of the Alerts panel. Click the check box [√] next to the alert to enable it.

Creating Reports for Specific Dwell Events

The fields under Report Parameters allow you to define the metadata of the report definition, such as its name and scope.

  1. Type a name and description for the report.

  2. Define the Date Range, Time Scope, and Interval.

  3. Click Edit Attributes.

  4. In the Edit Attributes dialog, select [√]Include Duration Averages and [√]Include Duration Min/Max. This will add the average, minimum, and maximum dwell time to the report.

  5. Click OK to return to the report editing screen.

  6. When you are finished defining the criteria for the report definition, click the Save Report button.

  7. To run the Dwell event report, select the report definition from the list and click Run Report.
    Report Viewer will immediately begin generating the report. While the report is processing, it will appear under Pending Reports. When the report has been processed, it will move to the list of Saved Reports that have been generated from the report definition.

  8. Select the report and click View to see the report.
