Getting Started

Installing Dwell Plug-In

  1. Launch 3VR System Manager.

  2. In the Configure panel, click the plus sign beside the appliance name.

  3. Right-click the Plug-ins folder and select Add Plug-in.

  4. In the resulting Confirm dialog box, click Install to proceed.

  5. Navigate to the folder containing the plug-in file (Plugins.Dwell-Release-7.0.xxxxx.3pg) and click to highlight the file.

  6. Click OK. The plug-in will now begin installing.

  7. When the plug-in is installed, it will appear below Plug-ins in System Manager.

Entering Dwell License Key

The next step in plug-in configuration is to license the Dwell plug-in.

  1. In the Configure panel, select the plug-in name to view its settings.

  2. Click Edit Settings.

  3. Copy (select the text and press Ctrl+C) the 23-character code from the Licensing Question field in the Edit Global Settings dialog.

  4. Paste (press Ctrl+V) the licensing question into an email to 3VR Technical Support (support@3VR.com).

  5. 3VR Technical Support will respond with the matching 27-character key within 1 business day.

  6. Copy (CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL-V) the key from the email into the License Key box in System Manager.

  7. Click OK to save and return to the Configure panel.

The Licensing Status field will display “Invalid” until the 3VR system software is restarted.

In your email, you must include the system serial number and the number of cameras of Dwell purchased (reference the P.O. number of the order if available). Please also provide your contact information and the customer/reseller company name.

Binding Cameras to Plug-in

  1. Click the plug-in name to view its settings.

  2. On the right side of System Manager, select the Bound Cameras field and click the ... button.

  3. In the Bind Plug-in to Cameras dialog box, click the check box beside each camera that should have Dwell.

  4. Click OK to return to the Configure panel.

Plug-In Settings

  1. After binding the plug-in to cameras, links will appear under Bound Cameras for each camera.

  2. Click a link (for example Edit “7. Lobby”) to edit the settings for that camera.

  3. The following settings must be configured for each camera bound to the Dwell plug-in:

Drawing Dwell Zone

For each camera that is bound to the Dwell plug-in, you must define at least one dwell zone that will be analyzed for Dwell events.
Zones are specified in the Dwell Zone tab of the Edit Settings window.

This is a required step. If you do not draw a Dwell zone, no Dwell events will be generated on the camera.

Use the following steps to draw a Dwell zone:

  1. Click the Polygon icon

  2. Click the video player to begin drawing a zone. Each click of the mouse will create a new line segment. To complete the polygon, click the mouse over your start position.

  3. Edit the polygon by clicking and dragging its end points. Sections of the polygon may not overlap.

  4. After creating the zone, edit the Name of the zone and make sure that [√]Enabled is checked.

  5. If desired, repeat steps 1-4 to create additional Dwell zones.

Setting Minimum Size

A Minimum Size must be established for each camera bound to the Dwell plug-in. Once set, the plug-in will only analyze the video feed for dwelling objects larger than the specified size. Smaller objects will be ignored. The minimum object size should be configured with the size range of targeted objects in mind.

To set the minimum object size:

  1. In the Edit Settings window, click the Minimum Size tab.

  2. Click and drag the Orange box until it is the desired minimum size. The positioning of the box in the video player is irrelevant.

Saving Settings

When you are finished editing the Dwell settings for the current camera, click the OK button at the bottom of the Edit Settings dialog. Repeat the steps in this section for any remaining cameras bound to the Dwell plug-in.

Finalize Configuration

Restarting System Software

  1. In the Configure panel, right-click the appliance name and select Restart 3VR Software.

  2. In the pop-up box that appears, click Restart to proceed. Wait 1-2 minutes for the software to restart.

Verifying Successful Configuration

To verify that the Dwell plug-in has been correctly configured, check for recent Dwell events in 3VR OpCenter:

  1. In 3VR OpCenter, click the Monitor tab to go to the Monitor panel.

  2. Click camera numbers to select the cameras bound to the Dwell plug-in.

  3. Click the arrow below the camera selector to open the event type drop-down menu.

  4. Select [√]Dwell and click OK.

  5. If the plug-in has been correctly configured, Dwell events will appear in the Monitor panel in real-time.

Verify that Dwell events are being generated correctly on all cameras bound to the plug-in during configuration.

Fine Tuning Plug-in Performance with Optional Settings

The settings in the Parameters tab of the Edit Settings dialog should only be modified from their defaults if Dwell results are unsatisfactory.

 

 

 

 

Minimum Dwell Time (seconds)

The minimum amount of time an object must dwell before a Dwell event will be generated.

Default: 10
Range: 1-200

Down sample Factor

Controls how the video resolution is down sampled before analyzing for Dwell events. When left at 0 (default), the plug-in will use the full resolution of the camera, which is highly CPU intensive. Installations running many Dwell cameras (or other analytics) at the same time may see improved performance by increasing the Down sample Factor of each Dwell camera.
