Viewing Motion Direction Events

Monitoring Recent Motion Direction Events in the Monitor Panel

The OpCenter Monitor panel allows you to view events as they happen. You can specify which cameras to view, and what types of events are displayed.

Use the following steps to view recent events generated by the Motion Direction Analysis plug-in:

  1. In 3VR OpCenter, click the Monitor tab.

  2. Click camera numbers to select the cameras associated with the Motion Direction Analysis plug-in.

  3. Click the arrow below the camera selector to open the event type drop-down menu.

  4. Select [√]Motion Direction and click OK.

  5. The Monitor panel will update to display only Motion Direction events from the selected cameras.

  6. To view an event, click the event card. The event card will turn blue, indicating it is currently selected.

About Motion Direction Event Cards

A Motion Direction event will be generated in OpCenter whenever a moving object (person, vehicle, package, etc.) is captured on a camera bound to the Motion Direction Analysis plug-in.

Motion Direction event cards contain pictures, video, and information about each moving object. They appear in the Monitor panel for recent events and in the Search panel search results.

Each Motion Direction event card contains the following information in storyboard view:

a. Thumbnail image

b. Camera number and name

c. Time of Event

d. Event Type

e. Length of the event video clip with additional information displayed on mouse over.

f. Date of the event

Searching for Motion Direction Events

Setting up the Search

Use the Search panel to find Motion Direction events recorded days, weeks, or months ago.

  1. To go to the Search panel, click the Search tab.

  2. Define the dates, days of the week, and time ranges to search for events.

  3. Under Cameras, select one or more cameras bound to the Motion Direction Analysis plug-in.

  4. Under Events, check the box next to [√]Motion Direction.

  5. The following options are available when searching for Motion Direction events:

    • Select (•)All Motion Direction to search for all Motion Direction events generated during the specified time range.

    • To restrict the search further, select (•)Specify. The following options are available to search for specific kinds of motion:

  6. Click one or more directions on the compass to search for motion in a specific direction.
    [√] Direction

    [√] Zone

  7. Draw a zone to search for objects traveling through the zone.

    • Click the polygon icon , then click the video player to begin drawing a zone.

    • Each click of the mouse will create a new line segment. To complete the polygon, click the mouse over your start position.

  8. When you are finished defining the criteria for the search, click the Search button.

  9. Motion Direction events matching your criteria will be displayed in the Search panel results screen.

  10. Select an event card to view the video clip and details of the event.

Sorting Search Results

There are two ways to sort the results of a search: by Time and by Similarity. Although the default sort order for standard motion events is by time, when searching for Motion Direction events using the options under (•)Specify it is recommended to sort by similarity. This will place the Motion Direction events that best match your criteria at the top of the Search panel results screen.

When sorting search results by similarity, the following criteria is used to define what “most similar” means for sorting purposes:

  • [√] Direction: Sorts events by time spent traveling in the selected direction. Returns longest traveler first.

  • [√] Zone: Sorts events by time spent in the zone. Returns longest visitor first.

Creating Alerts for Motion Direction Events

In the Alerts panel, you can instruct the 3VR appliance to perform a specified action when video is recorded that matches certain criteria.

Use the following steps to set up an alert that will perform an action, such as sending an email, in response to an event generated by the Motion Direction Analysis plug-in.

  1. To go to the Alerts panel, click the Alerts tab.

  2. To create a new alert, click New.

    In the alert editing screen, define the criteria for the alert:

  3. Type a name for the alert.

  4. Select a color for the alert. The color will be displayed on event cards that trigger the alert.

  5. Specify the day of the week and hours that the alert should be active.

  6. Under Cameras, select a camera associated with the Motion Direction Analysis plug-in.

  7. Check the boxes [√] next to one or more alert Actions to carry out when the alert is triggered.

  8. If desired, type an Alert Response Procedure. This text will be included with the alert and posted on events that trigger the alert.

  9. Under Events, check [√] Motion Direction.
    The following options are available when alerting for Motion Direction events:

    • Select (•)All Motion Direction to generate an alert for all Motion Direction events captured during the specified time range

    • To create an alert for motion in a direction or zone, select (•)Specify. The options under (•)Specify are identical to the event selector in the Search panel. Please refer to the previous section for more information.

  10. When you are finished defining the criteria for the alert, click the Save button.

  11. The alert will be added to the list of alerts displayed in the main view of the Alerts panel. Click the check box next to the [√]alert to enable it.

Motion Direction Event Reports

Running Motion Direction Event Reports

The 3VR Report Viewer client application allows you to generate tabular reports based on data captured by the 3VR system.

Use the following steps to set up a report for events generated by the Motion Direction Analysis plug-in.

  1. From the Report Viewer home screen, click the New button.

  2. Select Event Report from the menu.
    Report Viewer will switch to the report editing screen.

  3. In the appliance tree in the left-hand panel, select an appliance with the Motion Direction Analysis plugin installed on it.

  4. Under Cameras, select one or more cameras bound to the Motion Direction Analysis plug-in.

  5. Under Events, check [√]Motion Direction. The following options are available when reporting on Motion Direction events:

    • Select (•)All Motion Direction to create a report tallying all Motion Direction events.

    • To further restrict the report, select (•)Specify. The options under ( )Specify are identical to the event selector in the Search panel. Please refer Searching for Motion Direction Events for more information. The fields under Report Parameters allow you to define the metadata of the report definition, such as its name and scope:

  6. Type a name and description for the report.

  7. Define the Date Range, Time Scope, and Interval.

  8. If desired, select an option from the Group By and Then By drop-down menus to add grouping by camera and/ or event type to the report.

  9. When you are finished defining the criteria for the report definition, click the Save Report button.

  10. To run the Motion Direction event report, select the report definition from the list and click Run Report.

Report Viewer will immediately begin generating the report. While the report is processing, it will appear under Pending Reports. When the report has been processed, it will move to the list of Saved Reports that have been generated from the report definition. Select the report and click View to view the report.
