Introduction

The uTrust TS ScrambleFactor is a physical access control reader that provides controlled access to secured premises. This document gives basic user instructions and installation/wiring details. ScrambleFactor SF.3 is a multi-factor authentication reader that supports RFID, contact smart cards, fingerprint biometric, and an LCD with a touch keypad for PIN entry.

Reader Parts

The SF.3 reader has two parts:

  • A 2-gang adaptor plate with integrated Fascia seal/gasket secured direct to a wall, to a US double-gang box or to an existing Hirsch mounting box

titleSeparating the Fascia LCD Assembly and 2-Gang Adaptor Plate before Installation
  • Step:1 Hold the back cover lid of the 2-gang adaptor plate and the Fascia+LCD assembly with both hands.

  • Step:2 While holding the 2-gang adaptor plate securely, move the Fascia+LCD assembly upward. This will disengage the locking hooks on the fascia from the 2-gang adaptor.

  • Step:3 Pull the Fascia+LCD assembly towards you to separate the Fascia+LCD assembly from the 2-gang adaptor plate.

Assembling the Ferrite core on the cable

1. As shown in the Step:1 image below, strip off approximately 6 inches of the OSDP cable's overall jacket from the wall and put them through the hole in the mounting box.

2. Wind the cable’s conductors twice without a jacket and clamp the ferrite core onto the wires close to the reader connectors, as in Steps 2 and 3.

titleSeparating the Fascia+LCD Assembly from the 2-Gang Adaptor

To separate the Fascia+LCD assembly,

  • Step:1 Unscrew the PAN HEAD X2 M3X L8 screws from the Fascia +LCD assembly.

  • Step:2 Hold the Fascia+LCD assembly and push upward. This will disengage the locking hooks on the fascia from the dry wall adaptor.

  • Step:3 Pull the Fascia+LCD assembly towards you to separate it from the 2-gang adaptor plate.

Power Up and Testing

  • Power up the reader

  1. Buzzer sounds one short Beep followed by a long beep.

  2. The LCD turns ON, and the home screen is displayed.

  1. Contactless card- The LCD screen updates to show the card screen.

  2. Contact card- The LCD screen updates when inserting the contact card into the slot.

Firmware and Software Versions

The SF.3 reader has two PCBAs, TouchSecure MB PCBA and Display PCBA, which can be firmware updated in the field.

TouchSecure MB PCBA

The firmware version follows the format <major>.<minor>.<build Number>.<sha>

The current version is 4.0. yyyy.zzzzzzz

Display PCBA

The firmware version follows the format <major>.<minor>.<build Number>-<Date>-<Timestamp>

The current version is 1.0.0-YYMMDD-HHMMSS. Where the build number gets auto-incremented for every build.

Troubleshooting

Reader not powering up

  • Check the power connections to the reader.

  • Ensure the power of the reader is as recommended.

  • Unplug and re-plug the reader power at the reader or control panel end.

Contactless card not detected / access denied

  • Ensure that the card is presented in the reader's reading area.

  • Ensure that the cards are correctly enrolled in the control panel.

  • Check if the RFID card’s antenna is intact by cross-checking with another RFID reader.

  • Ensure that the reader is online on the control panel.

Contact Card not detected/ access denied

  • Ensure that the card is inserted into the contact slot with the contacts facing upwards.

  • Clean the contacts on the smart card if they are dirty.

  • Ensure that the reader is online on the control panel.

Fingerprint not detected / access denied

  • Ensure that the finger is not wet or excessively dry.

  • Ensure that the finger is not dirty.

  • Wipe the FP sensor glass with a soft cloth to remove any dirt in the glass.

Invalid Pin entry

  • Ensure that PIN is enrolled.

  • Ensure that the finger is not wet.

  • Wipe the LCD/ touchscreen with a soft cloth to remove any dirt/ moisture on the LCD.
